DESCRIPTION:

The City of Castlegar, located at the headwaters of the Columbia River, is a community of 7800 residents.

In 2014 the City began a phased implementation approach to building a continuous pathway network for cyclists and pedestrians that connects the overpass bridge at 20th Street and 6th Avenue with the Kinnaird Bridge. When completed the pathway will provide residents with a safe and healthy alternative to driving which will reduce traffic congestion and pollution.

WSA Engineering (2012) Ltd. was retained by the City in 2014 to provide engineering design and construction management services to continue work on the multi-use pathway. The 4m wide pathway commences at the west side of the Kinnaird Bridge, passes under the CPR rail overpass bridge, and continues upslope to connect with another portion of the pathway along Connors Road. The length of this portion of the pathway is approximately 350m.
