DESCRIPTION

The Doukhobor Heritage Retreat Society (DHRS) has over the past decade been working to improve the infrastructure for its Whatshan Lake Retreat, a 204 acre site just off Highway 6 near the Needles Ferry. The site now boasts 8 cabins with bathroom and shower, 3 with kitchenettes and 175 campsites, 38 of which have water services. Amenities include a lodge seating 100 people with washrooms, 3 showers and a kitchen, a concession with men’s and women’s washrooms with showers and a grassed gathering area with a performance stage. The existing water supply is from a number of drilled wells (Wells 1-5). The submersible well pumps deliver the water from the wells and through the distribution system.

WSA collaborated with its construction arm WSA Ventures (WSAV) and through discussions with subconsultants and suppliers came up with a practical and affordable solution to improve the water system’s reliability and capacity to provide fire protection, irrigation and safe potable water.
